Even when we know better, we often do foolish things. I recently did and am paying the price. I was volunteering at Habitat for Humanity in Kerrville a little over a week ago and while trying to nail a facia board on a soffit, I fell off a ladder and broke my right arm, just above the wrist. They set it at Peterson Urgent Care (not much fun with nothing to dull the pain) but told me I needed to see an orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible. That resulted in the need have a plate and a couple screws installed last Thursday. It’s a painful lesson to learn, but at least I walked away from it. When I’m able to return to Habitat, I fear they’re going to ask me to teach a ladder safety class. I can sure tell them what not to do!
Update: Saw Dr Morris today. He took some new x-rays. I now have a bionic arm – a plate with 10 screws to hold everything together. Guess it was a fairly bad break with several splinters. The good news – with all that internal hardware – no cast! Swelling and pain are down, and I am starting to use my hand and fingers (still very stiff and swollen). Not able to lift anything heavier than a cell phone but feeling better about it.
