Private Road Repair Update — Kerr Together Now Handling Requests

For those of you who responded to my post about providing help with private roads damaged by the July heavy rains and flooding, here is an update.

In the early days after the flood, I coordinated with several heavy equipment operators and excavating companies to get repairs made to some of the private roads around Kerr County that were severely damaged. Some of the worst roads were improved — bladed to smooth out the ruts and channels, and in some cases filled in with gravel recovered from the river downstream of Crossing Street. However, the list of requests was long, and most of the contractors were unable to provide services free of charge for more than a couple of weeks. Initially fuel was provided for these contractors free of charge by the Fuel Relief Fund, but they quickly exhausted their supply of free fuel.

I want to thank TNT Services (Ingram), Armour Excavating (Center Point), and McDermott Construction (College Station), who all volunteered their time and equipment to help our residents in need. All three companies have had to return to work on other projects. They are happy to do more if we can come up with funding to cover their costs, so I have engaged Kerr Together to help in this regard.

Where Things Stand Now

Kerr Together now has my list along with their own list of roads needing repairs based on requests they received. They sent teams out last week to assess the road damage and see the current status (some folks have found other means to repair their roads), set priorities, and come up with an estimate of the funds required.

So if you sent me a request for assistance and have not seen any help arrive, you are still on the list for road repairs as and when funds are available. But going forward, Kerr Together is now handling all requests for private road repair assistance.
